What a great success the Equity & Engagement Conference was this year!! Here are some pictures to celebrate the event. Below you will find some burning questions and issues addressed during the day!!

SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS (for large group discussion)

GROUP 1

Why are we uneducated about these issues that are happening in our own  
province?

How can we be more informed?

Why is spiritual education more valued by Aboriginal educators?

Why are these students forgotten?

Is it because of their culture or is it because of geographical location?

What influence did Shannon's death play on this movement? If she did  
not pass, would anything have happened?

Why did it take so long for this school to be Built? Are there  
teachers to staff it?

Were they able to find a better location? Were the other 50 school locations assessed for priority? (e.g., old schools)  

GROUP 2

- How/where can we access resources that will help bring indigenous  
issues into our classrooms ?

...participants expressed worries about saying the wrong thing and  
offending someone...wanted resources that have come from or have had  
indigenous eyes on them so they know they are accurate and reliable

What are the best ways to create response to Aboriginal rights from the Canadian government?

What are the best ways to ignite Aboriginal boys’ engagement in learning?

What are the best ways to support children advocates?

As a teacher, how much ugly do you share?

What are the boundaries of language use in schools?

education/knowledge and traditional ways?

2.     What kind of support can be provided around valuing voice and experience when looking at using a tool such as Shannen's Dream?

3.     How do we bring Indigenous voice in an authentic way and access experiential opportunities and develop voices within the curriculum given the number of expectations that have to be covered?
